It’s Fall Time! Here Is a Few of Our Team Member’s Favourite Fall Activities…

Fall is a reminder that change can always be a good thing. There are many things to enjoy about this time of the year. From the holidays that occur this time of the year such as Thanksgiving, and Halloween, the weather cooling (if you prefer colder temperatures), or the vibrant changing colour of the leaves.

Take a look below at a few of our team member’s favourite fall time activities to do are.

Ride your bike along the Welland Canal Parkway trail system in Niagara. The locks are a feat of engineering marvel. The trails run alongside the locks; 40 kilometers in length from the charming beach town of Port Colborne to St Catharine's. It's amazing to watch the freighters go from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. After a hard day's cycle, visit one of the wineries nearby like Vineland Estates or Malivoire. Ontario produces some of the best Pinot Noirs in the world.

Also, I love to walk along part of the Bruce Trail system in Dundas, ON along the former railway lines. I love the adorable replica train station building. It has been used many times in movies and TV sets. The trail system is also about 40 km long and you are in nature. No traffic noise. The surface is hard-packed English pea gravel, so it's beautiful underfoot. The crunching underfoot and the birds chirping are the loudest noises. It's very soothing. A great place to contemplate life.

I have always liked to go to the Fall Fairs in Southern Ontario. They offer a slice of country life with hay rides, tractor pulls, farm animals, great food, kids rides and often pumpkins to buy or eat!

The Fall air is cool and invigorating and the sights and smells of the country remind me of my childhood.

My favourite fall activity is going to all the family oriented Harvest Festivals in Halton Region. My daughter and I love Chudleigh’s Farm, Springridge Farm Harvest Festival; Andrews Scenic Acres; Hops and Harvest Festival, and Spooktacular at Mountsberg Conservation Area.

These are our favourite activities because we are surrounded by beautiful colours in nature, a transitioning landscape, crisp weather, live music and shows, fall pumpkin and gourd harvest, celebrated by lots of kids and families!

Any season is great when you live downtown and on any given autumn day I’ll take a walk to a nearby park, stopping at shops and cafes along the way. I’m particularly fond of Kensington Market this time of year because harvest is wrapping up and there is an abundance of local vegetables to feast on for Thanksgiving. Torontonians flock to the market to pick up ingredients for their homemade pumpkin pies and Hallowee’en costumes at the vintage stores. With the Kensington jazz festival in October and one last pedestrian Sunday on October 28, there is no better place to get in to the spirit of Hallowe’en!

For my husband and I, heading to Prince Edward County for the weekend, doing a wine tour, and eating at some great restaurants is a fun Fall getaway, especially when it's the changing colour of the leaves!

The region is a cold climate with a lot of limestone, so these wines are what's closest in Canada to that in Burgundy, France.

Some fun wine-tasting tours can be pre-arranged, but we like to visit some of our favourites, like Norman Hardie and Closson Chase, to check out the new releases. You can stay at the many charming hotels and B&Bs in the area. The Snow Owl Retreat is an industrial and chic building and one that's on our must-stay list for when we go this Fall. The hotel is spacious, modern and perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Ontario. The ambiance exudes total relaxation.

You can rent bikes at Bloomfield Bicycle, visit the white dunes at Sandbanks Provincial Park, and there's no shortage of fabulous restaurants surrounding you.

Walking in the ravines near my home with my dog, Coco, including Cedarvale and Nordheimer ravines. Let’s you escape from the city without leaving the city.

High Park in the west end of the city is one of my favourite places to visit in fall. Having grown up right next to the park, I’ve spent numerous fall seasons walking through the park, taking photos of the scenery or animals that I could spot and taking my dog, Luna to the dog park on the east side of High Park. It’s the perfect spot to feel like you’ve left the busy city life and have gone somewhere up north.
